Try to locate and save the fractured part of the tooth. Call our office to have the tooth evaluated.
Give us a call at the office so we can assist you. A facial swelling may be a result from a serious infection which needs immediate attention. You can also learn about our office to know what to expect when you arrive.
Make sure your child doesn’t continue to bite the area. Gently clean with water and apply a cold compress to any swollen areas. If there is bleeding, gently apply firm pressure. If bleeding cannot be controlled with firm pressure, go to the Emergency Room.
Clean and inspect the area of discomfort. Floss to dislodge any food/debris and rinse with salt water. If needed, give Children’s Tylenol or Motrin. Do not place any topical medicaments on the gums. Schedule an appointment, so we can assess what’s needed.
If you suspect your child has sustained a broken jaw, use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Head to the hospital immediately.
Do not replant. Apply pressure to the socket. Call to schedule an appointment to be evaluated.
If possible, reposition the tooth back into the socket correctly and hold in place OR place the tooth in a glass of milk (or saliva) and come to the office. Tooth survival is time sensitive and has a better chance of success when it replanted immediately

If the traumatic injury causes loss of consciousness, vomiting, or dizziness, go directly to the Emergency Room to get your child evaluated. Possibility of brain injury is more important than saving their tooth.
